Aquarium Sweater
Mohair and boucle | Knit | 2023
This piece was knit freehand and was an experiment in color, texture, and using multiple needle sizes in the same garment. The goal was the organic interplay between the material and construction, rather than wearability. I really love the contrast in textures between the warm nubbly shape of the boucle, the rough organic finish, and the vibrant watery shades of the mohair, which remind me of the lush textures of the coral reefs off south Florida. I would like to abstract and explore these techniques more in future pieces and combine the fiber sensibility with environmental pieces related to climate change.
