"a tale of kin not born from the soils of the earth" is a narrative accordion book depicting the birth of a humanoid orchid. In the story, I wanted to capture a sense of coming to the self as well as the experience of rapid growth experienced by many LGBTQ+ individuals in an effort to understand themselves and their relationship with their surroundings. The use of bright patterns additionally highlights the fantastical elements of growing up. Within the story, botanicals and pattern were key visual elements, and I would love to take some of these ideas into a repeated printed fabric.
